What You’ll See and Do

The tour will include some Iconic areas of radical action and issues that helped shape what the Village was up to the 1980s-90s. For example:

The Stonewall resistance/Uprising, of June 28, 1969. New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay club located in Greenwich Village in New York City the NYPD brutally hauled employees and patrons out of the bar, leading to six days of protests and violent clashes with law enforcement The Stonewall Riots served as a catalyst for Gay Rights movement in the United States and around the world.

The notorious Triangle Shirtwaist garment factory fire. On March 25, 1911, the Triangle Shirtwaist Company factory in New York City burned, killing 146 overly exploited workers. It was a true sweatshop, employing young immigrant women who worked in a cramped space at lines of sewing machines. Nearly all the workers were teenage girls who did not speak English and worked 12 hours a day, every day. It is remembered as one of the most infamous incidents in American industrial history, as the deaths were largely preventable.
